Screenr helps you create instant screencasts for Twitter

After several months of intense work, we’re excited to finally talk about our latest project, Screenr. Screenr is a web based screencasting service from our long time friends and client, Articulate, that allows users to quickly record and post 5-minute screencasts to Twitter, YouTube, etc. Similar to services like Twitpic and TwitVid, Screenr is seamlessly integrated with Twitter, giving you a simple way to notify all of your followers about your latest screencast. What do you need to get started? All you need is a Twitter account, a web browser, and either a Mac or PC.

Screenr comes to life

During the project, we handled the front-end design and front-end development of just about everything you see in the application. The recorder, the flash player, individual pages on the main and iPhone versions of screenr.com; you name it, we did it.

However, all of our front-end work would’ve been for naught if it wasn’t for the brilliant development team at Articulate and their truly inspirational CEO, Adam Schwartz. The development team seamlessly integrated our designs into the java applet and did a phenomenal job with the Twitter integration. The whole project took several months to finish, but the end result is a sleek looking application that is extremely easy and fun to use.

Tons of Twitter buzz

Screenr officially launched on August 18th and after a tweet from Brian Clark at @copyblogger and an article about the service on Read Write Web, people quickly headed over to the app to check it out. Soon after people were recording screencasts like crazy and reviews started to pop up at places like CNET, Mashable, and the Social Media Guide. While we were impressed by how quickly Screenr caught on, we were even more impressed by the content being created by users.

Within hours of the launch, someone was recording themselves playing guitar with their webcam. A few hours later, an ABC news affiliate was doing a weather report by recording a web based radar. Every time we looked it seemed as if someone was doing something new with the application and we’re thrilled with the new ways people are finding to use Screenr each day.

Ladies and gentlemen, start your recording!

From start to finish, this project was a blast to work on. Not only did we work with a kick-ass team to produce a well-received product, but now we get to use this same tool to make our lives easier. Now we can communicate internally with ease, effortlessly create tutorials for our blog, or even provide our clients with clear, visual instructions about how to use their Content Management System. And don’t think we’re done by a long shot, no sir! We have some really cool new features coming to Screenr soon that will make it even easier to record and share your screencasts with friends, family and associates.

We hope that you enjoy using the app and welcome any feedback you might have. Go log in and give it a try!

  1. Constantly impressed by the quality of work that you guys put out and the Screenr design comes as no surprise. When I first saw the site from @copyblogger’s tweet, I had no idea you guys were involved. Great work and I look forward to trying out the service this evening.

  2. Thanks Jermaine, we appreciate the comment and we hope that you were able to give Screenr a try tonight.

We spent a lot of time making the app fun and easy to use, but please fill us in on your experience. We’re always looking to improve, especially when it comes to Screenr, and your feedback would be much appreciated!

  3. Hey guys, another awesome piece of work. Screenr is stunning, I knew you’d designed it the moment I saw it (I first saw it courtesy of someone else on Twitter). You’ve developed a beautiful style that’s instantly recognisable, sort of like when you see a new Jesse Bennett-Chamberlain site, you know it was him.

Congrats on a great design and a great product, I’m looking forward to using it more in the future for talking through my design comps with clients.

  4. Pretty damn sick guys. Love how absolutely simple it is. We’ll have to use it on one our new projects.

Thanks guys. I’ll be using this for sure. One question: what tools did you use to create that fantastic Apple style video?

  6. Josh 1012009

Great work once again! Like the others, would love to know what software you used to create the video.

  7. Thanks again for all the compliments folks, we really appreciate them! As for the Screenr video, we led the art direction but the fantastic implementation was done by another local ATLien, Alan Hettinger.

Check out his site, there’s a lot more great stuff in his portfolio.
