A Web Afternoon

It’s no secret that the Atlanta web community has flourished over the past few years. With increased participation at local events and conferences, including regular meet-ups through the Atlanta Web Design Group, it’s safe to say that the southern web community is knocking on the door of greatness.

In the midst of this momentum comes a new kind of conference; A Web Afternoon. The brain-child of J. Cornelius (president of the AWDG), this event aims to bring speakers and attendees from from a variety of disciplines together for one purpose—a passion for making the web a better place. This video that J. put together sums up the spirit of the afternoon:

We were lucky enough to get in on the ground floor and sponsor the event, as well as develop the branding and web presence for A Web Afternoon. Over the course of a few short weeks, we pulled all of our resources together and came up with something that we were all very proud of.

Not only was the venue perfect, but the line up of speakers was phenomenal (especially considering this was the first AWA gathering). We were lucky enough to have Faruk Ates, Denise Jacobs and Ben Friedman as our featured speakers, as well as lightning talks from Leslie Jensen-Inman, Theo Rosendorf, Michael Mogill, and Todd Schnick. Each speaker brought something fresh to the table and provided the audience with insightful commentary on a number of creative topics.

After taking in the day’s activities, we feel that A Web Afternoon is destined to be part of the future of the Atlanta web scene. Many thanks to all of the speakers, attendees, and other incredible sponsors including MailChimp, CoffeeCup Software, Epic Labs, The Creative Group, and the AWDG. We are excited about what the future holds and can’t wait to be a part of the next event.

Were you there? We’d love to hear what you thought of the events in the comments below!
