Flock’s new site is flying high

UPDATE: This post is now irrelevant. The Flock site has since been re-done (poorly in my opinion), so the work that we did on it is no longer represented. If you want to see what the site used to look like, it’s saved for prosperity on Flickr.

After an unbelievably hectic 39 days, Flock’s new web site has finally launched. What started out with a random phone call from Flock’s CEO Bart Decrem has turned into a wonderfully challenging and enriching project that we were proud to be a part of. The folks at Flock are by far the best team we’ve ever had the pleasure of working with and none of this would be possible without the help and guidance of Bart Decrem, Daryl L.L. Houston, Will Pate, Brian Osborn, and an entire cast of Flockstars too many to name here.

Project overview

The project lasted a little over a month and was by far the craziest month we can remember. We had no idea what kind of ride we were in for when we signed on, but we loved every minute of it. The Flock team definitely had a wonderful plan for the site and knew what message they wanted to convey to their audience. Everything revolved around the users and that was made clear from day one. With this mentality, we took it upon ourselves to keep them in mind every step of the way. Flock’s site is now much more informative than their previous effort and will encourage more interaction, discussion and community involvement because of it. We can’t wait to see how it unfolds!

Many thanks

On the design side, I have to give credit to two amazing guys that we had the pleasure of working with and getting to know over the past couple weeks. Bryan Veloso’s work on the Flock site is phenomenal and he really helped elevate the project to an entirely new level. Bryan joined the team at a time when I felt the overall design needed a swift kick in the pants. He created a great looking identity that helped to solidify the work that we had already done. The layout was in place, we just needed a spark to set it off. Thanks so much for your help, conversation and guidance, it is much appreciated. Make sure to check out Bryan’s take on the design process here.

Equally influential in the design process (and probably the main reason we were asked to join the team) was Bryan Bell. Bryan created all of the wonderful icons that you see in the Flock browser as well as throughout the site. His creativity has touched almost every part of the Flock brand and he has created a wonderful identity that we think is second to none. We appreciate his help throughout the project and look forward to seeing what he’s up to in the future!

Final thoughts

Overall, this was an incredibly rewarding experience and we hope to continue our relationship with the fine folks at Flock (say that 3 times fast). Their motivation and enthusiasm for the product they’re creating is contagious and I encourage everyone to download the beta version of Flock and try for yourself. I promise, you will not be disappointed.

  1. Matt,

Great Work! It is definitely “time to drink a beer” – seriously though, us devs have been concentrating on the product, it was good to know that we had a great team focusing on making us look good!

  2. It’s cool and very quick and clean website. I love new flock design ;)
