The Story of Stuff

Even though this video has been around for a while, I found myself watching it again for the fifth time and thought I’d share it with anyone who hasn’t seen it. It’s a story about the world’s seemingly endless need for new product consumption and the Earth’s inability to keep up (what with it’s finite resources and all).

The movie is narrated by Annie Leonard and she does a great job of breaking down each part of the production cycle. The video covers a wide range of topics from how the products we buy impact the environment, how products are built for “planned obselesence”, as well as a narration on how big corporations seem profit from our inability to control our spending habits. You can watch the entire movie on YouTube. If you like what you see, check out the site for more info.

UPDATED April 22nd, 2008 – As a side note, it totally slipped my mind that today was Earth Day, which makes this video that much more relevant. Check it out, I’d love to hear any comments you may have after watching it.
