Personal Productivity

As my days become more and more hectic I’ve been looking for better ways to organize my time. With the daily 9-5 job and the ever growing freelance business, it is obvious that I need a way to manage the things that I have to deal with on a day-to-day basis along with the unexpected ’stuff’ that just so happens to pop up more frequently lately. Luckily I’ve found a few things that are just what I need to kick start my journey on the road to better organization and time management.

So what’s really important?

Although I haven’t gotten too far into it yet, I recently purchased a book called Getting Things Done by David Allen. I don’t remember where I first heard about this book, but something in my mind kept leading me back to it. I picked it up at Barnes and Noble and the information so far has been fantastic. Prioritizing and delegating have been the first few lessons and it has really helped me weed through the less important and focus on what should take precedence. I will give a better review of this book as I get further along, but from what I can tell so far, it will be a good one.

Making the most of personal productivity

Something else that I’ve found recently is the podcast by 43folders founder Merlin Mann. His no-nonsense approach to personal productivity is refreshing and his content is short and too the point. Merlin’s 2-4 minute podcasts are the perfect length to get you started in a productive direction. If you would rather spend your time bettering yourself and less time listening to mindless dribble, this podcast is for you (not to mention his commentary is usually hilarious). You can download his podcast from Odeo or iTunes.
