Early signs of what’s to come
With the unexpected news at the latest Apple WWDC that the next generation of Macs will contain Intel Processors, I was happy to read that the developers that have received their Intel-based models are having an easy time with the transition.
Developers interviewed for an Apple Insider article claim that OS X is on the Intel-based machines is “faster than [Mac OS X] on a Dual 2GHz Power Mac G5″.
Machine Specs
3.6 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor with 2 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz front-side bus, 1GB of 533MHz DDR2 Dual Channel SDRAM, and an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900
With the addition of Xcode 2.1 it seems that developers might be making an easier transition than previously thought. Although developers are making strides in transfering their programs to the new platform, the first Mac machines with Intel chips aren’t expected to be available to consumers until mid-2006.
